The Lions Club of Bel Air started off its annual project-per-day exercise held in honour of its anniversary, with breakfast for 17 residents of the Vincent de Paul Home.
According to a press release, this year the Club is celebrating its 37th anniversary with a packed programme to be executed every day this month. Members provided entertainment to accompany the meal and plans are in train to provide breakfast for the residents at Uncle Eddie’s Home, lunch for the children at the Ruimveldt Children’s Home and food and clothes for children at the Shaheed Boys Orphanage in Kitty and Girls Orphanage in Oleander Gardens. The Lions will also provide food for the Dharm Shala in Albouystown, bags of rice and flour to the Joshua Home for Children, Archer’s Home and the Beacon Foundation, sugar for the Makushi Village people and food and clothes for indigent persons.
The Club said a number of its sister clubs and supporting friends of the club are also invited to a subscription dinner on January 21 at its Civic Centre in Campbellville. Special guests will include Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony and his wife Dr Shanti Singh and present 60A District Governor Lion Nicolin Carol Moore of Trinidad and Tobago.
According to the release over its 37 years the club has received special recognition from the Headquarters of the International Association of Lions clubs worldwide magazine for celebrating its anniversary with a project-a-day, the first such exercise in the club’s global history. The premier exercise was celebrated with a four-page spread in the magazine. The Club was also ranked among the best performing clubs of the multiple district 60 within Cayman and Jamaica in the north and Suriname in the south.
The Club is also proud to have on its membership roll founder member Lion Sheik Mohamed Victor Nasseer past district governor three-star who is tasked with organising 14 clubs within the multiple districts in Jamaica, St Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Guyana. He currently holds the distinction within the district of being the most senior active lion member in service with 50 years of unbroken service with perfect attendance. Lions Club International has made available a special award to be attached to Nasseer’s membership identification in honour of his service.
