A Kwakwani man accused by the police of having a quantity of cannabis in his possession was on Tuesday remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against Kenroy Rogers is that on January 8, at Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River, he had in his possession 39 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Rogers denied the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that the police received information that led them to conduct a search of the man’s house, where the illegal substance was found. According to Telford, the cannabis was found in a number of transparent Ziploc bags. Rogers, the prosecutor said, was later told of the offence and was subsequently arrested and charged.
When given a chance to respond, Rogers told the court that he knew nothing about the charge levelled against him. He also said he did not “smoke.”
The unrepresented Rogers was remanded and ordered to attend the Kwakwani Magistrates’ Court on January 21.
