Two men accused of robbing a man of a cellular phone and a quantity of cash were on Monday admitted to bail in the sum of $65,000.
The allegation against Sean France and Taidell Metaland is that on December 30, 2010, they robbed Troy Satroghen of a cellular phone and cash, valuing in total $61,000.
France, a Bent Street vendor and Metaland, 20, a mason of 415 ‘A’ Westminster, West Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery when they appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that Satroghen was walking along the road when he was accosted by France and Metaland, who relieved him of the items mentioned in the charge.
Attorney George Thomas, who represented Metaland, indicated to the court that he wanted to save the specifics of the matter for the trial. He made an application for Metaland to be admitted to reasonable bail, on the grounds that he had no previous convictions, posed no risk of flight, had a fixed address and had been cooperating with police investigations.
Both men were granted bail and Sewnarine-Beharry ordered them to return to court on January 20.
