Rugby will return to the Providence National Stadium on Saturday for the first time since July last year when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) stages their practice games there.
According to the president of the GRFU, Kit Nascimento, they have received the authorization to use the stadium for their trial games following the submission of a written request.
The trials will be played every Saturday leading up to the International Rugby Board (iRB) Sevens World Series, in Las Vegas, United States on February 12 and 13.
The National Sevens team will represent Guyana for the second successive year at the tournament.
“We had a verbal agreement day before the last [Monday] to use the Stadium after we had written” said Nascimento while speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday.
“We may be using it on other day other than Saturday as well,” Nascimento added.
Saturday’s trial sessions will be held in the morning rather than in the afternoon unlike last Saturday’s trials in the National Park.
Under the direction of National Sevens Coach, Theodore Henry, the squad will meet at the National Stadium for trials from 10am to noon.
