Two men who are accused of possession of and cultivation of cannabis at Swan, Soesdyke/Linden Highway were remanded to prison yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against Linden Saunders and Okera Grennion is that on January 10, they cultivated a prohibited plant. Grennion is also accused of having in his possession 1.398 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Grennion, 20, and Saunders, a herbalist, of 37 Lamaha Springs, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey, in giving the facts of the case, said that on the day in question the police were conducting a patrol in the Yarrowkabra area, when they came upon a camp owned by the defendants. Harvey added that the camp had farmland cultivated with plants that stood at four feet tall. He said too that a bag was found in Grennion’s possession and it contained a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems, later verified to be cannabis.
The unrepresented Saunders and Grennion were ordered to return to Court Five on January 17 for reports and fixtures.
