Michael Singh, 48, was discovered dead at his Durban Street home yesterday morning but there was no clear indication of how he died.
Singh, of Lot 33, Durban Street, Lodge, was found lying in his bed by relatives, who had called out to him and gotten no response. They made the discovery when they decided to check on him. According to reports, spots of blood were seen close to the body.
When this newspaper visited the man’s home yesterday, relatives remained tight-lipped about the man’s death. A neighbour said the man’s family usually keep to themselves. She said that sometime after 9am yesterday, someone raised an alarm that Singh was not responding to calls to his room.
She said that Singh lived in the bottom flat of the two-storey house along with another person who rented a room. The neighbour added that the tenant worked at a security service in the city and was not at home when Singh’s body was discovered.
According to another neighbour, Singh was last seen around 9pm last evening with friends at a shop across the road from his house. She stated that the man would do odd jobs in the area.
The man’s sister who lived in the upper flat of the house where he was found, along with another relative, were being questioned by the police in connection with the incident yesterday.
Singh’s body is lying at the Lyken’s Funeral Home in the city and a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on his remains sometime next week.
