Mr Ramesh Sunich (right), Proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, presents a sponsorship cheque to Shiv Nandalall, Treasurer of the Guyana Chess Federation. The Trophy Stall is the annual sponsor of the Federation’s first tournament of the year. At the handing-over ceremony, Mr Sunich noted that chess has been making considerable strides in Guyana but is in need of major business support.
He emphasized that chess has a number of educational benefits for both children and adults, and said: “Chess is not a game of luck and chance, but a game that develops the mind. It has been known to provide benefits to children in their studies.” Mr Sunich appealed to parents to encourage their children to play chess and develop their brain power through knowledge of the game.
