A stormy meeting of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) held yesterday afternoon in the boardroom of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Regent Street office ended with executives deciding on the date for the annual general meeting of the DCB and of the delegates that will represent the various area boards.
The two feuding factions of the DCB were finally able after hours of back and forth arguments at the Special Executive meeting to decide that the AGM will be held on January 22.
The resolution comes after a ruling by the Honourable Chief Justice, Ian Chang, on January 14 for the body to go ahead with its AGM and election of office bearers for the 2011/12 term.
Chang had previously granted an order temporarily prohibiting the staging of the DCB’s AGM until the hearing and determination of an originating summons.
The AGM and elections of the DCB were scheduled for earlier this month but vice-president of the DCB, Anand Sanasie, had filed an Ex-Parte application by way of affidavit on December 23, to stay the holding of the AGM.
Yesterday during the special meeting however, the divided executives were unwilling to compromise on issues and the meeting proceeded well into the night with the majority of the matters unresolved.
Both sides of the divide accused each other promoting their own ideals in an effort to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections.
Accusations and insinuations were also levelled at each side before the meeting ended at 21:00 hours after a 16:30 hours start.
When the resolution was read by Raj Singh, he expressed disappointment at the continuous absence of statutory meetings last year claiming that it hampered serious decisions from being made.
The last executive meeting was held in May last year.
Singh then proposed that the executive authority of the board “promote the aims and objects of the board and carry out all decisions of the Special General Meeting, the Ordinary General Meeting and the Annual General Meeting”, quoting clause 5.1 and 5.2 of the constitution.
In the end the executives agreed to 16 delegates coming from the East Coast Board, 10 from the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), 11 from the West Demerara Cricket Association and 10 coming from East Bank.
Two venues were settled upon with Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion being the first choice and Lusignan Community Centre, the second.
Charles Ramson Jr. will be the returning officer.
B executive is made up of Bissoondyal Singh (President), Anand Sanasie (Vice President), Raj Singh (Honorary Secretary), Pretipaul Jaigobin (Honorary Treasurer), Samaroo Jailall (Assistant Secretary), Lalta Digamber (Assistant Treasurer), Krishnchand Mangal (Competitions Committee Chairman), Rovin Stanley (PRO), Ravi Prashad (Marketing Manager), Rohan Sarjoo (East Bank Demerara Cricket Association, represented- co-opted) and Roger Harper (Georgetown Cricket Association Representative- co-opted).
