A man was yesterday remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to gun and ammunition charges read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 4, Gordon Klein, a labourer, had in his possession one .32 Taurus pistol and 11 matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm license. He was also accused of two simple larceny charges amounting to a total of four charges.
The court was told by the prosecutor that on January 15, Shondell Jones and Klein, who shared a relationship, had an argument on Sheriff Street. During the argument, Klein took away Jones’ cellular phone worth $145,000. Observing what was happening, Vishnu Boodhan, a firearm licence holder, intervened on Jones’ behalf and in doing so dropped his pistol. The defendant then picked up the gun and ran off while Budhan and Jones chased after him. The man also discharged two rounds before making good his escape.
Klein was remanded to prison until February 1.
