Two Crabwood Creek Primary School students are patients of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) following an accident on Monday morning.
Rohame Baran and Vickram Sukraj, both 10-years-old, of Crabwood Creek, Berbice, were passengers in a “tapir” heading to school when the accident occurred.
According to Baran’s mother, Sumintra Manohar, her daughter was on her way to school for assembly when she was offered a drop from a friend. Soon after, a speeding minibus collided with the “tapir,” which was also transporting two other children and two adults, Manohar said.
The injured were rushed to the Skeldon Hospital and then to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Baran and Sukraj were later transferred to the GPH, Manohar added. Baran sustained a broken leg, a fractured hand and skull along with severe bruising to the face and other parts of the body.
According to Sukraj’s father, his son sustained a fractured skull as well. Sukraj, who is in the paediatric ward of the hospital, was taken for an x-ray yesterday after complaining of neck pains, his father said.
The boy had bruises to his face and other body parts.
The driver of the minibus was held following the accident, Manohar told this newspaper.
