Dear Editor,
I volunteered for a prepaid meter in 2009. One was installed in October that year. Since I am a qualified energy technologist, I requested the GPL metering manager Mr Charles to leave the old post-paid meter for me to compare the readings. He agreed.
Here are the results after 15 months:
Many years ago when GPL purported to assess the efficiency of my (postpaid) meter with an ordinary portable energy meter, I complained in your letter columns that they could not guarantee its readings. They took measurements again last year with the portable calibration lab which they said was GNBS certified, and when I enquired of their result I was told the meter was 99.8% accurate. I am now pleased to confirm that if that is so then the perfect correspondence with my results over 15 months means that my prepaid meter is precisely calibrated to an acceptable standard.
Congratulations to GPL.
I did have annoying, time-wasting frustrations with the prepaid meter, mostly due to lack of training of their staff, and requiring that I see the managers personally. I took these as growing pains in Guyana, and pursued the matters so that I and others after me could benefit eventually. I am now pleased to announce that these problems seem to be over, and the promises in the GPL prepaid meter jingle have at last come true since December 2010.
Congratulations again to GPL.
Yours faithfully,
Alfred Bhulai
