The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana and the Guyana Islamic Trust in separate statements have both endorsed the government’s decision to recognize Palestine as an independent state in the Middle East.
The CIOG said that “Guyana has now joined a list of South American nations that have recognized Palestine as a State. With Guyana’s international stature and its recognized place on the international stage, and President Jagdeo as Chairman of UNASUR, it is most fitting that Guyana has taken a positive step in recognizing the State of Palestine.”
And the GIT stated that it “firmly believes that such moves by Guyana and other prominent members of the international community will not only provide much impetus to the long struggle of the Palestinian people against apartheid, occupation and injustice but will significantly pave the way for a permanent solution to the world’s most dangerous conflict .”
