The autopsy on Dhanpaul Ramharakh, the Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara taxi-driver who died after being beaten by another man during a scuffle on Sunday confirmed that he died of a broken neck and also trauma to the head.
The suspect, a money-changer, remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court today, according to police sources. Police had said in a statement that Ramharakh and a man had an argument during which he was assaulted about his body. He was taken to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident occurred at around 7:45pm on Sunday at Sea View, Anna Catherina.
Ramharakh, 46, had responded to a call from a friend who told him that her neighbour was arguing with her, relatives had told this newspaper. One relative had said that upon observing the body at the hospital, the neck appeared to have been broken. This was confirmed by the post-mortem yesterday.
