Canadian High Commissioner Francois Montour started the 2011 golf season on a high note when he came out victorious in last weekend’s Medal Play tournament organised by the Lusignan Golf Club.
Montour (handicap 18) who was also victorious in last month’s RRT Enterprises tournament, defeated Club Captain Patrick Prashad (handicap 8) on a countback after both players recorded net scores of 72 on a much-improved Lusignan Course, affected by recent inclement weather.
Third place was secured by Fazil Hannif (handicap 13) who shot a net 73.
Meanwhile, the first sponsored tournament for this year will be played off this weekend. Club officials confirmed that Harris Paints will sponsor Saturday’s Medal play tournament starting at 12:30 hours. Players must register by 15:00 hours tomorrow with the club.
According to Prashad, close to 35 players are expected to compete since the weather has improved tremendously over the past few days. The list should include Mohanlall Dinanauth, Mike Gayadin, Maurice Solomon, Dr. Ram Singh, Brian Hackett, Carlos Adams, Bhowaram Deo, Chatterpaul Deo, Christine Sukhram, Brian Glasford, Esau Shamshudin, Colin Ming, Albert Russell, Joaan Deo, Muntaff Hannif, Munaff Arjune, Mike Mangal, Imran Khan, Troy Codogan and William Walker. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers as well as Nearest to the Pin.
Representatives of Harris Paints have been invited to assist in the presentation of prizes.
