The Mayor and City Council (MCC) says it has completed almost 70% of its sanitation exercises in sections of North and South Cumming-sburg.
In a press release it said activities include desilting street and alleyway drains, scoping parapets, collecting and removing garbage and other solid waste and vector control. Now the communities enjoy better drainage.
The MCC said wanton dumping has affected the efficiency of drainage in the area and heaps of garbage and other solid waste had been removed from these sections. A number of shacks erected on the Council’s reserves were also demolished. However, squatting remains a problem and a public health threat as the structures are void of basic sanitary facilities such as toilets and kitchen sinks.
Works are expected to be completed over the next two weeks, and started in another community in the city. The Council also extended gratitude to the businessmen who contributed garbage receptacles to its efforts to restore the city to its previous beauty.
