Mark Anthony Chan, 18, was on Wednesday placed on $50,000 bail, after he denied being found with marijuana.
Chan appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of narcotics.
It was alleged that on January 12, he had in his possession 10 grammes of cannabis.
In presenting the police force’s case, the prosecutor told the court that police officers were performing mobile patrol duties when two young men were observed standing on the road. The police subsequently carried out a search on the two men and a transparent bag, with a substance suspected to be cannabis, was allegedly found on Chan. Chan was later charged. After granting Chan bail, Sewnarine-Beharry transferred the case to Court Five for January 24.
