A post-mortem examination performed on the remains of United States-based resident Roopnarine Ramodit, 59, who was killed at Clifton Settlement, Corentyne on Wednesday, found that he died from shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries.
The post-mortem was conducted on Friday.
At around 7:30 pm, two masked gunmen entered the yard where Ramodit, 59, was sitting with another man and inflicted a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. Ramodit was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
By that time the gunmen made off with a gold chain he was wearing and escaped in the direction of an abandoned rice field.
Six persons were taken into custody and one has since been released.
Ramodit and his wife, Loopwatie ‘Baab’ Ramodit, 54, of Minnesota, arrived in the country on Wednesday morning, a few hours before the shooting took place “for a few days’ vacation.”
The couple, originally from No. 48 Village, was staying at the home of Loopwatie’s relatives, Raymond ‘Jack’ David, 49 and his wife, Dawatie, 48. It was the first time they were staying in the area.
