A 25-year-old woman from the Essequibo Coast has been admitted to the Suddie Hospital with severe burns about her body after her home was “channa-bombed” as her family slept in the early hours of today.
Speaking with this newspaper the woman’s fiancé Danesh Mohanroop, 25, said he, his fiancée Sunita and their four-month-old daughter were asleep at their Bamboo Dam, Sparta Village home when they were awakened by a flash of light in their bedroom around 1 am. According to the man, it appeared as though four bottles which appeared to be channa bombs had been hurled through their bedroom windows. The man said the flammable liquid from one of the bottles landed on the mother of his child and then the flames ignited on her.
Mohanroop said his family and two others who shared the house scrambled to get out of it and Sunita was rushed to the hospital. The man said Sunita’s condition has been listed as serious with burns from her neck to her feet. He suffered minor burns to his right foot and said they he was unaware of who could have targeted them with the incendiary devices. The matter was reported to the police at Anna Regina and an investigation has been launched.
