Bhowlaram “Friskie” Deo brought his consistent form of 2010 into the start of this year when he secured victory in the Harris Paints sponsored Medal Play Golf tournament last Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course.
Arguably the best player at the Lusignan Golf Club last year, despite not winning a single tournament, Deo a 15 handicapper shot a net 69 from gross 84 to edge out Fazil Haniff who also scored 69 on a countback for last five holes.
Mohanlall “Santo” Dinanauth secured the third place with net 70. Lowest gross went to Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud (73 net 71) and nearest to the pin, inevitably, to Esau Shamshudin.
Former member and past president Lester Alvis, who now resides in St. Lucia visited Guyana over the weekend and proved that he still has a command of the course in shooting an impressive net 72 with some remarkable putting using borrowed clubs.
Harris Paints retail service manager Garfield Manasseh said he was excited that his company was part of the tournament and along with Nicole
Griffith [marketing assistant] and Rawle Collins sales representative, pledged they
would sponsor a similar event next year.
Meanwhile, Harris Paints also made a donation to the Lusignan Golf Club’s Youth Development programme which is expected to kick off in the next few weeks, Club Captain William Walker disclosed.
Walker who thanked the company for the generous support disclosed that the Junior Programme will offer free lessons to youths between 10 and 17 years on the basics of the game as well as history and etiquette.
