Classes were disrupted at the Tutorial High School after a bush fire in an empty lot behind the school building sent thick, black smoke billowing into classrooms.
Hundreds of students were evacuated to a playground opposite the Woolford Avenue school. The fire, this newspaper understands, started naturally some time around 11am and spread to the school’s back fence.
The fire service was quick to respond to the report and the blaze was put out in a matter of minutes. A section of the school’s back fence was scorched but the building, except for smoke stains, was not damaged.
