A man who was charged for robbery with violence appeared yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 19 at Georgetown, Karl Hillman robbed Tevon Douglas of one cellular phone valued at $75,000 and $30,000 cash and at the same time or before or immediately after used personal violence on the said Tevon Douglas.
The unemployed man of 124 Regent Street, Bourda, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the magistrate.
Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question, the defendant approached the virtual complainant and relieved him of the items mentioned in the charge and was violent to him at the time.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry placed the 22-year-old on $75,000 bail but the man begged for a reduction. Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry then granted him bail in the sum of $60,000 and transferred the matter to Court Five for report and fixture on January 27.
