BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – West Indies women’s coach Sherwin Campbell says he is thrilled with the development of his side, despite coming away from the Indian tour empty-handed.
The side returned from India on Tuesday evening after losing the five-match One-Day International series 3-2 and the three-match Twenty20 series 2-1.
Campbell said though West Indies lost both series, they pushed the strong Indian team throughout.
“Many teams, both men and women, go to India and get blown away so I was pleased with the fact that we were very competitive against the Indian girls and we played some fantastic cricket on tour,” Campbell said.
“The Indians are ranked above us and are more experienced than us but the way we played showed that we have a talented team here in the West Indies, and the ladies are committed to getting better.
“We toured South Africa and Sri Lanka and managed to do very well. We played against England in St Kitts and we beat them. We also reached the semis in the World T20. Now with the performance in India, it shows that the team is making more steps forward.”
The tour represented the first time in India for the side but Campbell said they adjusted quickly to the new conditions.
They opened the tour on a winning note, beating the Indians by nine wickets in Mumbai before India sneaked a 10-run to level the series at Vadodara.
West Indies won the second match at Vadodara by three wickets to take a surprise 2-1 lead, before losing the last two matches to throw away the series.
