A man accused of threatening to beat his reputed wife and children because he could not find the TV remote was yesterday freed of the charge after his wife indicated to the court that she no longer wanted to proceed with the matter.
The allegation against Lennox King is that on January 24 at Georgetown, he made use of threatening behaviour to Denise Mark, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of threatening behaviour when it was read to him by the magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
In presenting the facts of the case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that on the day of the incident the accused along with his reputed wife and children were at their 282 Lamaha Park, Georgetown home when the accused threatened to share licks.
According to Pindar, the man was searching for the television remote and couldn’t find it and so he threatened to beat his reputed wife and children. When asked by the acting chief magistrate if she wanted to proceed with the matter against King, the virtual complainant responded “no.” The magistrate then enquired from Mark if she was afraid of the defendant and as a result wanted to bring the matter to an end. The complainant, however, again responded “no.”
The matter was then dismissed and Mark was ordered to pay $10,000 costs for wasting the court’s time.
