Tonight the fourth annual Fruta Conquerors organized Namilco Football Festival will conclude with what is expected to be a thrilling double header at the Tucville Playfield where Santos and Alpha United will play for top honours.
The two teams who have battled their way into the final will collide at 8 pm in the feature for the top prize of $500,000 while Victoria Kings and the host team Fruta Conquerors will play in the third place showdown.
According to coach of the Santos team, Denzil Thompson, he believes that his team will give a good account of themselves since they have been hard at training.
“Since the Kashif and Shanghai Tournament that we lost and the Super Eight which we also lost our team has been going hard at training. We have been preparing for the Super Eight and this final as well because we were expecting them to call on us at any time.”
Thompson stated that Santos is in good spirit and tomorrow, playing as a unit will be crucial given that they will be playing a 4 – 4 – 2 formation.
And for the Alpha United team, there is much to be said since the squad displayed excellent form less than a month ago when they regained the Kashif and Shanghai title in a thriller at the Guyana National Stadium.
It is expected that the team will be a force to reckon with since they performed very well in October to make it to the final of the Namilco Football Festival before it took a twist and was interrupted by inclement weather.
The third place showdown which kicks off at 6 pm between Victoria Kings and Fruta conquerors will not be a matchup to miss as the two evenly matched teams collide for the $100,000 third place prize.
Last month these two teams participated in one of the most intriguing encounters in the Kashif and Shanghai Tournament at the Enmore Community Centre Ground where Conquerors emerged victorious on penalty kicks after battling for a heart-stopping 120 minutes.
This will be a chance for the East Coast team to claim revenge on the host as well as another chance for the host to revive themselves on home turf.
Prior to these two games the Santos and Fruta Conquerors Under-15 football squad will collide in an exhibition match at 4 pm.
Meanwhile, lucky spectators will have the chance to win hampers, compliments of NAMILCO, with the purchase of a ticket.
