The current resurfacing of the National Park circuit is nearing completion, with less than one quarter of the circuit still to be done.
At the site yesterday to observe the progress being made at the facility were national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed and Director of Sport Neil Kumar.
Mohamed has scheduled his first race of the year for the National Park circuit and is eager to get the local cyclists on the resurfaced track.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday, Mohamed stated that the resurfacing of the circuit is almost finished and “the guys [cyclists] are anxious to go on it.”
“They [contractors] have almost reached round to where they started from,” Mohamed observed.
Mohamed’s inaugural race meet for 2011 was scheduled for tomorrow, but according to him he rescheduled the meet for next Saturday because he wanted to ensure the circuit is completely dry before pedaling off the race season.
In the meantime, Mohamed stated that he will be marking the track for the upcoming race.
Mohamed’s cycling programme commences with the 18th Annual Ricks and Sari Argo Industries Limited Youth Programme.
The race will feature a number of races, including the 12 to 14 years Boys & Girls (3 Laps), BMX Boys 12 to 14 years (3 Laps), Veterans Under 50 years (5 Laps), BMX 9 to 12 years (3 Laps), Veterans Over 50 years (5 Laps), BMX 6 to 9 years (2 Laps), Juveniles (10 Laps), BMX Girls 6 to 12 years (1 Lap), Upright Cyclists (5 Laps), BMX Boys Open (3 Laps).
Representative from Ricks and Sari Argo Industries Limited will present the prizes to the winning participants.
