Visitor arrivals at the Kaieteur National Park were the highest last year since 2007, and Chairman of the Kaieteur National Park Commission Shyam Nokta sees this as a reflection of its growing attraction as a popular tourist site because of Guyana’s heightened international profile. Between 2001 and 2006 visitors to the park were just more than 2,000 per year but the numbers have grown significantly since 2007, the National Parks Commission (NPC) said yesterday in a press release.“This is clearly a reflection of the mounting interest in Guyana which has been boosted by the country’s role in initiatives to combat global climate change and protecting the environment,” Nokta is quoted as saying in the release.
