Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) Dr Roger Luncheon was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning after complaining of back pains.
Doctors were initially optimistic that Dr. Luncheon would have been cleared for a discharge last night but a decision was taken to have him rest at the institution. “He is resting well and is in good spirit,” Health Minister. Dr. Leslie Ramsammy told Stabroek News last night. He said that the HPS was still experiencing a bit of pain.
Dr. Luncheon was admitted to the hospital at around 7:30 am yesterday and a release from the institution later informed that his condition was “stable and the doctors have been conducting further investigations.”
Ramsammy has noted that Dr. Luncheon, 61, has a chronic back problem which has afflicted him for years. Doctors decided to run a battery of tests on the HPS, the Minister said, to “understand why he continues to have these pains.”
He said Dr. Luncheon would be discharged from the institution “at some point” while indicating that he was not in a position to say when. He confirmed that the HPS was in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital but observed it was merely for privacy. “The ICU paints a picture that he might be critical but his condition is stable. He is fine and is going to be okay and as soon as we complete one more test we will move him,” Ramsammy said. He pointed out that beds were available at the ICU when Dr. Luncheon was admitted.
Ramsammy said too that Dr. Luncheon suffered spasms prior to his admission but pointed out the HPS did not “collapse as some people are reporting.”
