Opening batsman Rajendra Chandrika warmed up for next week’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) First Class tournament with a patient unbeaten century at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda yesterday.
Chandrika, playing for Assad Fudadin’s XI, showed his class with 11 fours in his even 100. His team closed the first day of the two-day game on 222-2 from 96 overs; Vishaul Singh and Fudadin were the not out batsmen at the crease on 12 and nine respectively.
Devendra Bishoo was the only bowler with any success, dismissing both batsmen to end with figures of 2-26 from his 27 overs.
Earlier in the day Chandrika and Shemroy Barrington, who made a dominant 42, put on 80 for the first wicket. However, Bishoo brought his dominance to an end by trapping him lbw; the diminutive right hander faced 57 balls, hit four fours and lasted 108 minutes at the crease.
The second wicket partnership further put Bishoo’s XI on the back foot when Chandrika and Leon Johnson put on 118. Chandrika and Johnson had their moments during the partnership with some sweetly timed shots but when Chandrika was called in after reaching three figures, Johnson was bowled after reaching 50.
Chandrika faced 221 balls and spent 185 minutes in the crease while hitting one six and five fours in his innings.
The match ends today.
