The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed for February 13.
This was disclosed to Stabroek Sport yesterday by GABA Secretary Robert Cadogan and President Trevor Rose.
In explaining the reasons for the postponement, Cadogan noted that all the reports, which will have to be reviewed at the AGM have not been completed, so they will re-schedule the meeting.
“All the reports are not completed and we have to get a returning officer,” Cadagon stated, while adding that the venue for the AGM has been tentatively set for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Further, the GABA secretary pointed out that a meeting has been held with representatives from the various basketball clubs throughout Georgetown. He noted that the clubs were told if they wished to propose a nominee for election to the GABA executive, they should do so before February 6.
He added that each club will be allowed one vote and one person to second the vote.
An additional reason for the postponement of the AGM is the absence of GABA president Trevor Rose, who departed Guyana yesterday owing to “personal commitments.”
Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday, shortly before boarding his departing flight, Rose stated that he will be returning on Monday, but said one of the main reasons the AGM has been rescheduled is because the GABA treasurer’s report is still to be completed.
Rose assured that these reports will be ready in time for the upcoming AGM, since the deadline for their completion is February 6.
