The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) on Thursday awarded Medex Andrea Budburgh for being the health worker of the year for 2010.
Awards were also presented to regions Two, Five and Six, for their part in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH)/Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) last year.
MCH Officer Dr. Janice Woolford said that the next time she hoped to see representatives from the regions closer to Georgetown being the recipients of awards, as this year’s recipients were from remote regions of Guyana.
Awarded a trophy for commitment to the MCH/EPI/ Programme for 2010, Budburgh was praised for displaying a high level of interpersonal relations with the staff and community, for contributing to the goals and targets of MCH/EPI, and for promoting community programmes for primary health care.
Region Six was given the EPI Award for being the best performing Region with the highest percentage of coverage in each antigen over 95% in 2009; for reporting in a timely manner on EPI activities; and for maintaining good surveillance.
A trophy and a plaque were distributed to representatives from regions Two and Five, respectively, for maintaining good surveillance in 2010.
