National captain Daren Ganga will be included in a 14-man squad expected to be announced today by the Trinidad and Tobago national selectors for the Barbados regional First Class clash from Friday at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre.
Manager of the team Omar Khan said on Saturday:”Ganga is leaving a decision to the very last and hence the thinking of the selectors was to include him in an extended squad of 14 players for the match against Barbados.
“Normally we would have 13 players on the squad but although there is cover for Daren, he is still in the squad.”
Ganga is expected to know on Tuesday whether or not he will play, when he receives his second medical report from his physician Dr Anil Goopiesingh. Khan continued :”Ganga is an integral part of the set up as you know and he will be battling to get ready in time for the match.
Ganga, who missed the final of the recent Caribbean T20 tournament in Barbados last Sunday against English champions Hampshire because of splitting the webbing between his thumb and index the finger on the right hand, might be forced to hand over the captaincy to Denesh Ramdin.
Meanwhile, the national players will go to camp at Paria Suites from Tuesday in preparation for the clash, which gets going on Friday.
Khan added there will be a lot of classroom work at the camp with the players undergoing mental preparation and goal setting sessions. “The key for the players is to switch their mode from T20 to First Class cricket. We will be turning our attention to the longer format and during the camp, the players will undergo a mental sessions which are so vital to the doing well.”
