Bert Sukhai elected to Caribbean Millers executive

Namilco Managing Director Bert Sukhai was elected first vice president of the Caribbean Millers Association (CMA) at its 14th AGM.

The meeting was held under the theme ‘Sustainable Development in the Agriculture Sector’ and attracted representatives from 50 companies. The two-day event was declared open by Suriname Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce Michael Miskin on December 7. It was chaired by CEO of Meelmaatschappij De Molen Flour Mill of Suriname.

The release said Winston Ramautarsing gave the opening presentation titled ‘Agricultural Development in Suriname and Guyana –Between Potential and Reality’.

“The trend of rising grain prices due to conditions such as floods, drought and poor crops” was covered under a presentation titled ‘Commodity Price Volatility’.

In addition, Elvis De-Riggs of the East Caribbean Group Companies in St Vincent was elected president, Tom Sowden of Kansas City Bags, USA, was elected second vice president and Derrick Nembhard of Jamaica Flour Mills was remains secretary/treasurer. The executives are expected to hold the post for two years.
