A man accused of searing his former girlfriend with a hot iron on her buttocks and the left side of her face over an argument about a text message was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $100,000.
The allegation against Troyden Reece is that on January 25 at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on the woman.
Reece, 22, of 137 Campbell Street, Albouystown denied the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm when it was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry whom he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Reece’s attorney said that according to his instructions, there was a misunderstanding between the two and the woman was accidentally burnt by the iron.
The lawyer did not get into further details surrounding what transpired on the day in question as he said that will be left for the trial.
He then made an application for his client to be granted his pretrial liberty in a reasonable sum.
In presenting the facts of the case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar told the court that on the day of the incident, the two who once shared a relationship were at home arguing about a text message.
According to Pindar, the argument escalated and got physical when the accused picked up the hot iron and burnt the virtual complainant (VC) on her buttocks and face.
It was evident that the VC who was at court had been burnt in her face.
The prosecution had no objection to the accused being placed on bail but requested that it be in a substantial sum and that the parties be placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
Reece’s matter was transferred to Court Six for February 7 for statements.
