The Rotary Club of Stabroek, Georgetown is launching a Peace Poster Competition for youth in honour of World Understanding Month, this month.
The theme for this competition is ‘Spreading peace through cultural diversity’, the club said in a press release.
Youth ages 12-14 are encouraged to depict the theme in artwork using crayons, markers, water colour or oil paints or coloured pencils on 18” X 24” art board, paper or canvas. All submissions must be original.
“Only one entry per participant is allowed and each entry must be accompanied by a separate piece of paper stating the name, age, sex, address, telephone number, name of parent/guardian along with their signature,” the release said. It should also include the artist’s interpretation of his/her artwork in not more than 200 words.
The posters will be judged for creativity, originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme, explanation of artwork, and presentation.
The winner of the contest will receive a cash prize of $50,000, a plaque and book awards. The runner-up will receive a cash prize of $30,000, a plaque and book award and the third place participant will receive a $20,000 cash award, plaque and book award. The winning entry will be replicated and disseminated to youth groups, schools and youth focused organizations countrywide to promote the message of peace, the release said.
Entry boxes will be placed at all Republic Bank locations nationwide and IPED offices in Parika, D’Edward Village, Mabaruma and Lethem. For more information, the public is invited to contact Club president Anand Harrilall on telephone number 629-1377.
