Police investigators believe that the same gunmen involved in an attack at the Shell Service Station at Camp and New Market streets on Tuesday robbed five persons on the Georgetown seawall later that night.
According to a police press release issued yesterday, around 21:45 hours two men armed with firearms entered the service station, held up pump attendants, Devon Yearwood and Sherwyn Abrams and took away $10,000 before escaping in a waiting motor car.
It is believed, the release added, that the same two perpetrators then proceeded to the Georgetown seawall where they attacked and robbed five persons and took away cash and jewellery valued at a total of $130,000 and escaped in the motor vehicle.
One of the victims of the seawall attack told Stabroek News yesterday that she and a friend were sitting on the seawall near the bandstand when they were attacked.
The woman, who requested that her name be withheld, recounted that the men first robbed a couple and a man who were sitting a short distance away before pouncing on them.
She said that the men, who both brandished weapons, came up and demanded all their valuables.
The woman said they complied and were too scared to look at the fleeing men.
She could not say how they escaped but recounted that shortly after two policemen arrived on the scene.
The ranks who approached them from the Vlissengen end had apparently been trailing the men as when the victims related what had transpired, the policemen responded that they already knew what was happening.
No one was injured during the ordeal.
