A minibus conductor yesterday pleaded not guilty to snatching jewellery when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Kevin Anthony stole from the person of Anjanie Parris two gold bands worth $150,000.
In presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor told the court that the virtual complainant was walking along Avenue of the Republic when the accused approached her, snatched the items and ran off.
After raising an alarm, public-spirited citizens were able to arrest the man and he was handed over to the police.
The accused was taken to the station and one of the two bands was recovered.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry granted Anthony bail in the sum of $135,000 and transferred the matter to Court Five for report and fixture and the serving of statements on February 9.
