The car that gunmen drove off in after holding a Grove, East Bank Demerara family hostage in their home early Tuesday morning was yesterday found by police.
A senior police official confirmed that acting on a tip, ranks ventured to the back of Agricola, where they found the cherry red 170 Corolla at around 10am.
Sussheila Roopnarine told Stabroek News that early yesterday morning the ranks informed that they had found the car at the back of Agricola. She said that the car, which had to be towed away, is at the Golden Grove police station. Two rear lights, two rear-view mirrors and the music set were missing from the vehicle, which was found parked on a street. Sussheila, however, said that she was thankful that the vehicle had been found.
Meanwhile, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said that no arrests had been made in the case. He said too that there was nothing to indicate that the robbery was committed by the same gang that shot two men during a robbery on the Grove Public Road on Monday night.
Reports are that around 3 am, two masked gunmen entered the Lot 886 Section C, Block Y, Golden Grove residence of Rajesh and Sussheila Roopnarine. Once inside, the bandits attacked the couple while several others stood guard in the yard. The couple’s son, Brijanand Vicky Dookie, who was asleep in a nearby room, was also attacked. The members of the family were tied up and gagged by the bandits, who beat the men.
After spending about an hour terrorising the family and ransacking the house, the bandits fled the scene in the motor car, which had been parked in the yard.
