Dear Editor,
What to make of the comments attributed to the Minister Rohee in your article on Tuesday?
At first I laughed.
At work we brushed it off, as we’ve tried to bury so many similarly uncomfortable situations in the past.
But on my way home, I felt like crying. Crying, because people like Mr Rohee represent the benchmark of decision-making in Guyana. He represents the best we have to throw at the law and order problems facing Guyana. Crying, because with every day that passes, it becomes clearer that the only way to escape this optimal level of law and order is to leave.
Go far away, become bitter and sad, and forget the dreams you’ve had for a life in Guyana.
Mr Rohee should visit the families of those massacred at Lusignan and at Bartica, and explain to them why this is the optimal level of law and order. Mr Rohee should visit the family of Mr Roopnarine Ramodit and explain to them why this is the optimal level of law and order. Mr Rohee should sit with the family of Mr Pretipaul Jaigobin and explain to them why this is the optimal level of law and order.
He should lie on the grave of Neesa Gopaul and explain to her why this is the optimal level of law and order.
We need to work together, support those who govern, but this kind of whitewash belongs in an era that’s long past.
I hope Mr Rohee gets his pension soon and disappears.
It is likely to be the highest service he would have given to Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
