Linden’s Michael Anthony defeated Berbice’s number one junior cyclist Neil Reece when the Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice staged the second annual Dhansar Tulshi 40-mile cycle road race on Sunday.
The race, which saw mainly cyclists from Berbice and invited riders from Linden competing, was organised by coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club, Randolph Roberts.
The race began from Main and Alexander Streets, New Amsterdam, proceeded to Adventure Village on the Corentyne and returned for the finish at Alexander Street.
Reece crossed the finish line behind Anthony to grab second place, while Montel Anthony, Wayne Hasnoo, Keith Griffith and Akeem Arthur rounded off the top six positions in that order.
The females segment of the race, over a distance of 10 miles, was won by Hazina Barratt while second place went to Marica Dick.
Other than the top prize, Anthony’s dominance in the race also secured him all six sprint prizes that were up for grabs.
The next event on the Flying Ace Cycle Club’s calendar is on Saturday when the club stages its annual awards ceremony for cyclists who performed outstandingly.
The awardees are Reece (Champion Cyclist), Dick (Female Champion Cyclist), Nashane Jaundoo (Outstanding Cyclist for Upper Corentyne), Roberts (Best Coach) and Margaret Kuna for voluntary contributions towards the club.
