A husband and wife who were accused of assaulting each other had the charges dismissed on Monday after each declined to offer evidence against the other.
It is alleged that on January 17 at Georgetown, Lorraine Meyers unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Kenroy Meyers.
On the said day, Kenroy is accused of unlawfully and maliciously assaulting his wife Lorraine to cause her actual bodily harm. They both pleaded not guilty.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said that on the day of the incident, Kenroy went home and couldn’t find his wife and repeated calls to her cell phone went unanswered.
According to Pindar, Lorraine Meyers who went home later that night was questioned by her husband about her whereabouts but refused to provide any details. It was at this point that they got into a fight.
Attorney-at-law Tanya Warren who represented Lorraine Meyers related to the court that neither party wanted to proceed.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry enquired from both husband and wife whether they really wanted to end the matter and both defendants said yes. The magistrate then imposed $10,000 costs on each of them for wasting the court’s time and informed them that the matters were dismissed.
