The commencement of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the attempted murder of Police Constable Rajindra Singh and Detective Damintra Intrapaul that should have started yesterday was again postponed.
February 21 has now been given for the start of the PI.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford informed the court that the attempted murder charges have not yet been recorded on one case jacket for the PIs to commence simultaneously.
Further, the February 21 date was also set for the commencement of the PI into the charge of setting fire to a building, involving the same defendants.
Colin Jones, Randy Mars and Jafar Simpson were jointly charged with the offence which stated that on November 4, 2009 at Georgetown, they discharged loaded firearms at PC Singh and Detective Intrapaul with intent to commit murder on them.
Basil Morgan was separately arraigned on the said charges. Following this separation of charges the prosecutor requested that they be recorded on one jacket. Telford noted too that the circumstances under which the offences arose are the same.
On December 2, Jones was charged with murdering two of his former gang members and another man and was jailed for eight years on a series of other charges, including cultivation of ganja and possession of an unlicensed weapon and ammunition.
Jones was jointly charged along with Mars and Simpson with discharging a loaded firearm, murder, attempted murder and setting fire to a building.
Among the other charges levelled against Jones are murder, attempted murder and escaping from lawful custody.
Jones and his gang had been at a Kara Kara Creek location for about 16 months according to reports.
