Another pulsating day of golf is anticipated when the annual Stag Beer Medal Play tournament sponsored by Ansa McAl comes off on Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course.
With over 40 players expected to grace the course much could be expected from the large field which will include players who excelled last year.
While it is unclear whether Mighty Raja would return to defend his title, Ansa McAl Marketing Director Troy Cadogan will be looking to better his 2010 performance against the likes of Albert Russell who won last weekend’s tournament as well as Clifford Reis, Mohanlall Dinanauth, David Harry, Munaff Arjune, Mark Lashley and Hemraj Kissoon, who were all top performers in 2010.
Stiff competition is also expected from the in-form William Walker, Avinash Persaud, Patrick Prashad, Mike Mangal, Bhowlaram Deo, Francois Montour, Carlos Adams, Dr. Ram Singh, Colin Ming, Ronald Bulkan, Muntaz Hannif, Brian Glasford, Gavin Todd, Christine Sukhram, Joaan Deo, Avinda Kishore, Alfred Mentore, Chatterpaul Deo, Brian Hackett, Mike Gayadin, Esau Shamshudin and Imran Khan.
Club captain Patrick Prashad told Stabroek Sport that the course is in excellent shape with light rough and smooth greens so players can anticipate good scores in the highs of 60s and low 70s across the field.
Stag Beer Brand Manager John Maikoo said that participants will be presented with special Stag beer paraphernalia.
Players have until today at 16:00 hours to register with the club via telephone number 220-5660.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three players with the lowest net as well as nearest to the pin.
Officials expected to attend the presentation ceremony will include Maikoo and the company’s Public Relations Officer Darshnie Yussuf.
Meanwhile, Ansa McAl has offered support to the Lusignan Golf Club’s Youth Programme which is scheduled to get cracking shortly.
In the programme free lessons are being offered to youths between 10 and 17 years.
Club secretary William Walker said that interested youths can register with the club but he noted that space is limited.
