The West Indies Cricket Board and Scotiabank recently launched its Kiddy Cricket Programme for primary school age children at the Georgetown Cricket Club.
According to a joint press release the programme was launched in Guyana on January 28. It commemorates a 12-year partnership between the WICB and Scotiabank aimed at promoting cricket at the primary school level both on-field and in the classroom.
“The programme which is geared towards getting kids excited about the game, also supports an academic component making creative learning aids available to schools,” the release said.
This year the programme will be implemented in over 1000 primary schools in the Region, which includes 250 schools in Guyana. Schools will also benefit from the Clarence Goes to School Teaching Manual which covers basic subjects such as Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
According to the release WICB and Scotiabank will launch a series of activities throughout the year including three Kiddy Cricket Festivals, a Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Development Camp as well as on-field interval displays at this year’s Digicel Home Series in which the West Indies will be hosting Pakistan and India in eight territories from April – July.
