CARDIFF, (Reuters) – Two tries from winger Chris Ashton got England off to a flying start in the Six Nations championship yesterday with a 26-19 victory over Wales.
It was the first time England had won in Wales since 2003 but they had to hang on grimly.
Ashton scored under the posts on 14 minutes after a move inspired by flyhalf Toby Flood and grabbed his second early in the second half as England swept 23-9 ahead.
The Welsh, lifted by a try on the hour from Morgan Stoddart, battled back to 23-19 but England had the last say with a penalty from replacement Jonny Wilkinson.
