Ten local designers will next Saturday showcase their skills and imagination when Simpli Royal, a name synonymous with pageantry, hosts its first ever ‘National Dress’ competition.
From 8 pm at the National Cultural Centre, designers that are on the cutting edge of today’s fashion, including Randy Madray, Alana Binnings, Rolex Scott, Keisha Edwards, Quinton Pearson, Curt Stephenson, Vinu Mattan, Shedell Burch-Smith, Minerva Peters, Carol Fraser, Vashti Harlequin and others will present their concept of what Guyana’s national dress should look like.
According to a press release from Simpli Royal, the winning piece should capture some aspect of our culture, display intricacy of design, exhibit fit and finish and excite the crowd. The winner will walk away with a cash prize of $150,000 plus bragging rights.
In addition, there will be high energy fashion segments featuring the designs of Roger Gary, Vashti Harlequin, Pat Coats, and Sonia Noel along with performances by Charmaine Blackman and Celeste David.
Tickets for the show cost $1,000 and are available at the usual outlets.
