(BBC) A Scottish newspaper is reporting that controversy is being stirred between Scotland and Trinidad and Tobago by an advertisement mocking Scotsmen in kilts in a bid to lure Trinidadian drinkers from Scotch back to rum.
Giant billboards for Angostura are said to show a Scotsman in national dress performing a Highland Fling but failing to impress a curvy beauty because of his costume.
The billboards carry the slogan: “In Scotland, men dance in skirts. In Trinidad, men dance with women in skirts.”
One Scottish kiltmaker told the Scotland on Sunday newspaper that the ads were a “cheap jibe.”
The paper said that they had sparked an angry backlash from expatriate Scots living in Trinidad.
