A bandit who yesterday morning discharged a round at a sales clerk outside his Bourda workplace before escaping with a lunch bag, was captured by alert policemen a short while later.
Police said in a press release that around 08:10 hours a man armed with a firearm confronted sales clerk Mathura Narine, 51, as he was about to enter his workplace at Narine’s Trading, Regent Road, Bourda.
The armed man discharged a round which caused Narine to drop a haversack that contained his lunch, a cell phone and $700. The perpetrator then picked up the haversack and ran away.
“Ranks of a mobile police patrol, who were alerted at the sound of the shot, responded and gave chase behind the perpetrator who was caught in a yard at Church and New Garden streets,” the release added.
An unlicensed .38 revolver with two live rounds and one spent shell was recovered by the police.
The man is in police custody and will be charged shortly.
