French Guiana national John Christian who is accused of entering Guyana illegally was yesterday fined $30,000 or three months imprisonment.
Additionally, the defendant was ordered to be deported immediately.
When Christian made his first court appearance Friday last at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court he denied the charge of illegal entry.
When the man returned to court yesterday with his attorney Adrian Thompson, however, he indicated through his interpreter that he wanted to change his plea to guilty.
Upon being told this, acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom the matter was called handed down the sentence.
Christian accepted that on February 1 at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice he entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
