GWI recently met the Pensioners Association of Guyana to increase awareness about its pensioners’ subsidy for water and to clear up misconceptions about the subvention.
In a press release the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said over 30 pensioners interacted with its Public Relations and Customer Service departments including Customer Service Manager Jeanette Thomas and Public Relations Officer Timothy Austin.
GWI said the highlight of the meeting was Thomas’s presentation on the subsidy. She also fielded numerous queries from pensioners about their service. Thomas noted that some pensioners are not aware that the subvention is only granted to pensioners who receive Old Age Pension from the Ministry of Human Services. “We also have pensioners who believe that they do not have to pay for water,” she said, adding that the meeting provided a forum to clear up misconceptions.
In addition, Austin noted that other initiatives to educate and resolve pensioners’ concerns have also been planned as part of its ‘Community Connect’ outreach programme for the year.
According to the release, Secretary of the Association Cybil Cort said most pensioners understand how the subsidy is applied but the meeting explained the actual amounts paid by government
