Car, jewellery stolen from UK-based Guyanese at NA

Two men hijacked a car belonging to a United Kingdom-based resident at Republic Road, New Amster-dam around 7:30 pm on Monday after robbing him of his gold bands; the car was recovered yesterday morning.

Alston Beresford, 76 years of Palmyra, Canje had gone to the area to visit a friend; the owner of Penny’s Hotel & Bar when he was confronted by the men as he was about to enter his Toyota Marino motorcar, PJJ 8370.

He told reporters that the two men, one of whom was carrying a revolver, stuck him up and snatched his jewellery. He resisted at first but one of the hijackers ordered his accomplice, while using expletives, to shoot him.

The men who were dressed in dark clothing then took away the key to the car and drove off, leaving him in a state of shock.
He reported the matter to the police and thereafter conducted a search in vain for the car. Around 10 am yesterday he received a call that the car was found abandoned in the Mayor & Town Council Housing Scheme in NA.

The traumatized Beresford told the media he was happy that the hijackers did not harm him and said that his vehicle appeared to be intact. The key to the car was missing though.

Police said in a release that a man has been arrested as the investigations continue.
